Friday Favorites (Ranch Home)

One of my first words was “horse”. That does not even attempt to describe the obsession I have had with horses. Every Christmas and Birthday, I have asked for one, disappointed each time. I actually don’t understand why I still don’t have one.

So, I have decided to make this Friday Favorites about horses! I can hardly wait to show you all the lovelies I have found: (As usual click on the pics to bring you to Amazon to buy it)

I have a huge horse photo hanging prominently in my living room. I love it, but I couldn’t find the same one, so I found these that were similar. If you’re buying art- whether it is an inexpensive photo like this or a gorgeous, expensive watercolor, make sure you buy something that makes you feel something. Your hair should stand on end a little because you see yourself somehow in the art. Don’t listen to what other people tell you about the art- buy what you love because you’re the one that has to look at it every day.

Coffee tables can be really out of the box like this cart. It looks like a miniature horse should be hooked up to it. You may be able to find this in an antique shop, but I would worry a little about it having rust. I don’t want someone being cut on it and getting a tetanus shot. This is a reproduction of a cart and it is adorable. Stack some books on top with a vase of flowers. Everyone will love it when they walk in your home.

The lovely Joanna Gaines brought barn doors front and center and I love it. I really like the ones where you can see the hardware. This blue color is especially beautiful. I need one of these doors in my hallway going to my bedroom, but it needs to be 15 feet high because I have some tall archways in my house. I will find one!

This is a really nice entertainment cabinet. If you want the “barn” look but you don’t have room for a barn door, this is a great way to do it. I would suggest getting either the door or this entertainment cabinet or it will look gimmicky.

I think I can going to buy one of these horse pillows. I just can’t decide which one! The are both beautiful. What you don’t want to do is buy a really tacky horse bedspread. Having some pretty linens with ONE horse pillow is enough. I know, I know, you want to cover every square inch in horses in your house, but try to contain yourself. One piece like this is all the statement you need.

I have a large, gold head of a unicorn staring at me right now on my desk. It reminds me of King Peter in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” riding a unicorn into battle. It makes me feel strong when I’m a little lost. I bought it at an antique store for $10 last year and I haven’t let it out of my site since. The owner of the store thought I was a little crazy and couldn’t understand why anyone would buy it, but that’s why I got a good deal. Do you see? Pick something that makes you feel something.

I have a huge thing for turquoise. These bookends are such a gorgeous color. If you can imagine these holding a few of your most precious, old books, they would be gorgeous. They can have an oriental feel or a country one. Personally, I would put these in my house even though it is considered French Country style.

I want this for my front porch or front yard. You can switch out the pots easily with the season. This is such a pretty way to welcome guests

I think this is one of the prettiest rocking horses I’ve ever seen. You don’t have to have a child to buy this. It would be beautiful in a rustic, white house. Don’t get me wrong- this would be gorgeous in a nursery and it’s the sort of piece you keep out in your house and hand down to your children.

This would be a great rug for the kitchen. It feels cozy and sweet, but still hides dirt.

There is not a lot I love more (as far as things are concerned) than a lantern and this one is particularly interesting to me. It reminds me of those old lanterns that were hung in barns. Can you imagine hanging a real fire in a building full of hay? That must have been very dangerous. This one doesn’t have a real flame, but it definitely looks vintage. More industrial looking items like this  look really beautiful in softer rooms. I would put this in my living room or my son’s Wilderness themed bedroom.

Vintage signs are really “in” right now. What do you think of this one? Does it pull at your heart?

I would have loved to have this barn when I was a child. It folds up so you can stuff all the horses inside when it’s time to clean up. This is made of solid wood so it’s another piece you can leave out if you want. I hate those plastic toys that make homes feel cluttered. This toy still has style.

If you are lucky enough to have a horse (I hate you), this is such a gorgeous all weather saddle pad. I love the stripes on it.

Can we just talk about these boots? They are so pretty. Green boots and dark jeans, sitting on a horse? Win-win.

If all else fails and Santa does not come through with that horse, you can dress up your favorite puppy dog. They will not mind.
