Banana Carob “Raw-Scream”

Those of you who have read my about page, know that I have been desperately searching for some relief from Fibromyalgia. I’ve been messing around with trying new diets for over a year now and have finally seen some difference on the one I am currently on! I’ve been reading… oh my gosh… have I been reading…. so much about the disease and the different things people have tried as far as diet goes. I have tried: gluten free, dairy free, Paleo, low carb, all kinds of Dr. Oz diets…. I’m sure there are more, but I just don’t have the strength to list them all. This one, however, has behaved much differently than the others so I knew I was on to something. I can actually FEEL when I eat meat due incredible amounts of pain. I just don’t want anything to do with meat now that I know what it does to me. I’m wondering if it’s the animal hormones? Whatever the reason, I can definitely feel a huge difference in not only a vegetarian lifestyle, but of eating mostly live plants! I feel so much better, but it didn’t happen right away.

In the mornings, I make the most incredible ice cream-like “desserts” that will blow your mind- and they are wonderful for you- see recipe below for one!

At lunch, I eat a vegan salad that could probably feed about 4 people. It’s mostly organic greens.

At dinner, I eat 2-3 servings of salad FIRST and then I eat a little of what my family is having (which is always vegetarian).

Before bed, I eat a huge bowl of fruit with coconut whipped cream on top while my husband and I watch television.

 

The first couple of weeks, I was very murder-y. Then, I really hit rock bottom the third and fourth week. Then, after I thought all hope was gone, I started climbing the mountain top the fifth week and now I feel great. I’ve never felt great in my life.  Not ever.  My tastes have totally changed. During the hurricane, I ate badly and I paid dearly for it with pain, but it was just a nod that I was doing what I was supposed to do food-wise. I couldn’t wait for the stores to reopen so I could get a cart full of lettuce and vegetables (which I totally gorged myself on).

I wanted to share this wonderful recipe I came up with- that is so incredibly good for you!!

Be advised, there is a tiny bit of prep the night before and you need a really good blender, Vitamix, or food processor.

I am calling it “Banana-Carob Raw-Scream” because it’s close to Halloween AND because you will scream in joy it’s so good!

Ingredients:

2 peeled, frozen bananas

1 1/2 cups almond milk

1 TBSP Agave (or honey)

2 TBSP Carob powder

1/2 cup of frozen (or fresh) strawberries (or berry of choice)

2 tsp chia seeds

1 TBSP ground Flax seed

Optional:

1 TBSP protein powder of choice

1 TBSP Swerve sugar substitute (or your favorite sugar sub)

 

Toppings: cinnamon, coconut whipped cream(my favorite- I get at health food store in frozen section), fruit, shredded coconut

 

Here’s how you do it:

Prep the day before:

Peal 2 bananas and wrap them in wax paper. Place in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until frozen. (I do mine the night before)

About a minute before you want to eat it, do this:

Throw all ingredients into food processor and hang on to your tush- those bananas are angry in there!

Eat it before it starts to melt (like it is in these pics I took)!
